Introduction – What is SEO ?
SEO is nothing but all the optimization that takes place on your website for it to rank higher on the search engine result page for any particular keyword your customers are searching for in the search engine.
Why SEO Is Required ?
SEO tunes your website to make it not only discoverable but rank for the keywords (words or Phrases) which people are entering into their search engine to reach a particular solution. Many times these solutions are solved in a single click through AI Overviews but sometimes, searchers are looking for more than that, It all depends upon the search intent of the user and If the business can provide some solutions to the user query, they can introduce their products and depending upon the search intent, they may make a purchase.
Other Advantages Of SEO
SEO is one of those investments that doesn’t just yield results immediately but, if done correctly, can continue providing benefits over time. Most searchers don’t scroll beyond the first page and instead click on one of the top non-sponsored links if their question isn’t answered by AI Overviews. If you rank for high-value keywords, you will consistently receive traffic and a steady stream of curious users who might become paying customers.
Example
Imagine you are a girl (let’s call her Nisha) who has recently joined a college for bachelors and moved into its hostel. You don’t understand the 1st semester hype, but one thing you do know is makeup (cliché, I know, but bear with me). Not only can you talk about it for hours, but you can also apply it to anyone who wants it. You know which skin tone requires which products. You know how to remove makeup properly after an event. You decide that, alongside your college studies, you will launch a website to provide makeup services near your college. So, you ask one of your classmates to build a website, list your services, and add your contact number. Now, you’re ready to be the next entry on Shark Tank.
After a while, You see orders coming in but these are from Social Media Growth and mouth to mouth, You do the see money rolling in but you still don’t see any of your customer ever mentioning coming from your website and you start to wonder whether the Domain and Hosting Charge you have paid is worth it or not so you decide to give yourself some time to learn more about SEO and maybe someday the revenue coming in from the website outweighs what you are paying to keep the site alive.
SEO Fundamentals – Key-words In SEO
- SEO isn’t complicated; it involves a few key steps. Let’s start by thinking from your customers’ point of view: they will type specific words or phrases (keywords) into a search engine. Your first step is to identify what your customers are searching for. The phrases or words that the user will enter and around which you will create content are called Keywords
- The second will be to craft content according to that particular keyword to solve the query the searcher might have related to the domain in which you operate. The content should be informative and readable and should make the searcher feel like they have invested their time correctly, which Google likes and this content on the page is called On-Page SEO
- The third will be to technically optimize your website to make it indexable, ranked, and crawled, basically telling search engines how to perceive your content. After this, if your content starts getting ranked for a particular keyword, the place where it’ll appear is called SERP (Search Engine Result Page), and the entire process to do it all is called Technical SEO
- Finally, what you can do with your website is share it and talk about it in places where it needs to be, and over time, the number of websites that will link back to your website will keep increasing and these are called Backlinks, so the links from any site other than yours will look good in eyes of Google especially if the site is much bigger than yours and this process of having multiple relevant site linking to you is called Link Building
Continuing with the above example, Nisha knows that she has to limit her services to rank better, and she decided that she will offer 4 services, which are Bridal makeup artist, Hair styling services, Virtual makeup services, & Fashion makeup artist (These are the keywords)
She will serve nearby areas, preferably in a 5 km range within her campus. Now, let’s imagine the same scenario from the customer’s perspective. Let’s call one of them Aditi, who wants one of the four services. In this case, let’s assume that the website is the only way for the two parties to connect. Now there is a specific phrase, word or words which the customer will enter onto their search engine to find the business serving those and from Nisha perspective she has to tune her website in such a way (ON-Page SEO) that her website rank for that particular keyword on Google (Search Engine Result Page) and when Aditi searches for let’s say Fashion makeup, Nisha website pops up ( Indexed & Ranked due to Technical SEO) and they both connect. Now, the process to optimize the Nisha site for it to rank better in search engines (Mainly Google) is called Search Engine Optimization. We’ll see in the next blog how to do Keyword Research, Craft Content for On-Page SEO, and do Link Building.
