Before I move further about my High School Facebook Page, you should know this page is the 2nd of My Ventures series in which I’m talking about all the pages or ventures I used to handle. I recently completed my previous series which focused upon my earliest meme page named Rated Random and it concluded in a 3 part series. Unlike that page where I somehow got access to the insight of the posts, I have lost access of this one and will need to rely more on storytelling than on stats. I’ll cover everything in this blog except the name of the page for privacy reasons so let’s get started.
How I Took Over The Page ?
It all started when I was in 11th class and at that point I already had garnished some success when I got First 100 Followers on my Facebook Page ? & now was the time to try my hands on something which was already established but didn’t get success according to me which at that time was my high school social handle. As far as I can remember, It had around 2.5K likes & the admin at that time was an alumni and used to just post candid images of the school along with images from the school function.
These are the actual screenshot from the official page and even though it was a norm at that time, I had something else in my mind so I did what I thought was the best direction to move forward what corporates nowadays called the cold approach method, I just messaged the admin asking him to make me the editor of the page. After some back and forth, he agreed and I became the editor of the unofficial page of my high school.
Why I Approached The Admin ?
At that time, I kind of started to envision every page as someone which can tell a story or make related content for the audience at the very least. I knew from the about section that the page wasn’t an official account and hence I took the decision to tell the story myself.
It’s not like I thought I would get any reply because at that time, the page didn’t post any content for quite some time so it’s possible the management got dormant. The luck worked in my favour and luckily the admin replied and he made me an editor.
What I envisioned for the page ?
The idea was pretty simple and that was to make relatable memes for the current audience and recently passed out students. At that time, I had spent more than a decade in the same school and knew almost every urban legend and teacher quirks to make the content relatable for the followers and have it stand out and boy did it worked ?
My first post garnished over 100 likes & 18 comments for a page which has only 2.5K likes at the time which put the engagement rate to a staggering 4% which if you know is much higher than the industry standard.
At that time, I knew I had something in my hand worth holding and creating something much better than it previously was and I did exactly that.
What Content I Used To Post ?
Unlike the previous post which mostly were generic, I wanted to make content about things which were happening at the time which most people cannot only relate to but share too on their timeline. It was just the time where edgy content was starting to make a wave and even though the normal bait content used to garnish engagement, nobody used to talk about it after the dust settled and unlike that, I wanted to make something which leaves a legacy even if small.
I started focusing upon common templates but shared something which only people from my school can relate to and then I did again and again and again.
Some wild stories During My Time
- A boy in my own class started to act like he was the admin in front of me and I went ahead with it resulting in me learning poker face.
- An alumni messaged me asking me to remove the meme I made about his favorite teacher but when I argued that I know many of the teacher including the one he is talking about actually has enjoyed the meme, he said that he doesn’t care and want it to be gone and hence I did what a 17 year old guy could do, I made one more meme and sent him the link.
- Not more than 3 people still know who was the mind behind the memes but I’m very sad to see that because I out rightly has mentioned my name by including my name initials in a number of posts caption and that’s gonna remain there forever. I know no one cares enough right now to verify it but if someday someone wants, they just have to know which school I went to, check for the unofficial page on Facebook and check for posts caption between 20th Jan 2028 to 25th Jan 2018
Any Future ?
Unlike my previous venture Rated Random which is due for an update in the coming days, there is no redemption for this venture and it’ll always remain something I could have done more with but there were issues at that time which were out of my hands, I might try to do something with the very core of this in the future times but for now, this is what I got, I’m debating on whether I should write a separate blog about my learning here as there were a lot of it so if you do see a hyperlink attached to this anchor text, you would know there is something but if there’s nothing, I bid the final goodbye to this venture, you were a great audience, check out My Journey and remain updated with the timeline.
