As mentioned in the last blog where we talked about What Is SEO, we understood that you won’t be able to reach out to your audience if you don’t know the common linking factor between you both which is Keywords i.e. the words or phrases your potential customers are entering onto their search engine to satisfy their urges.

Before we move forward with the Keyword Research, let us spent some time in learning what the searchers are actually looking for while they type in their query and according to that, we can optimize our web content to match or say make it relatable for the searchers. They aren’t searching for any particular website and even if they are, your aim should be to be the one to get that click. There is a reason behind every search or say intent of the searcher and If you can figure out what that is, you’ll be able to get maximum eyeballs over your content and eventually the checkout page but What is Search Intent ?

what is search intent for keyword research
Search Intent is basically what the user intent is while they type in any query onto their search engine or for that matter any platform.

How Does It Align With Keyword Research ?

Imagine you wanna watch a new movie in theatre and you got to decide which one to watch. Now this question might seem like a simple question at first but the answer will keep changing If you keep bringing in more factors. What you wanna watch with your parents will differ from what you wanna watch with your friends and even factors like time and location will change your choice.

Now Imagine yourself as someone who makes those movies, you won’t make it for everyone and even though everyone is allowed to watch your movie, you won’t be able to satisfy every viewer watchlist so your every choice regarding movie like story, casting, songs will result in a product which has now a specifically curated niche but targetable market.

So the bottom line is thinking from your audience POV and being specific about the niche and market you are targeting like for example Take one of your movies categories like Romance will attract Couples of all ages but If the couple in the movies are in College, you can’t expect someone in their later age to have much interest in that. But even if the main category is Romance, it can be a laugh riot inviting another demographic in front of the screens.

And If you can be more specific with your categories, you will attract a niche but focused, dedicated, loyal audience who can be your repeat customer. That’s why you only need to have certain pages and certain keywords targeting those pages and you have the perfect recipe for a box office draw.

Selecting Keywords for Psyden Crafts

Our website isn’t a marketing agency and nor do I need to intend to make it one in near future, that’s now what I My Journey to be. I’m here to learn and then implement the same, neither do I intend to dive deep into SEO nor do I wanna keep swimming at surface level and the same is the case for all the pages and the associated category they are a part of. Currently there are 5 main pages in the site which are

  • Ranking Code
  • Social Media Growth
  • Engaging Narratives
  • Visual Storytelling
  • Web Development

The best case scenario here would to select keywords which are properly distributed between them and then create content around them targeting these webpages, It seems pretty simple and in a sense it is. There are some factors though which I need to keep in mind which are

  • I’ve no money for a paid tool
  • I’m the only one in my content team and content distribution is tough
  • Keywords need to be more real rather than be generic
  • It’s supposed to be fun

Process Of Keyword Research

Select Seed Keyword

Everything has to start from top and from there on, you can navigate to your specific niche like even in movies you can touch multiple genre and have a clear vision but there aren’t many categories or genre and each one of them is broad enough to encapsulate every director vision and the same is true for Keyword Research.

Have a general idea about where your website lays and then navigate down like in our case, I can’t write many informational content as there are already a lot of them written by much more experienced writers and put on website with authority which is multifold of ours, I always wanted this to be more of a practical case studies focused website where I can write about my own experience about learning the algorithm behind it all and that’s what I’m gonna target too.

Seed Keywords which I think are best for all of my pages

Ranking Code – How To Rank online, How To Get Discovered on (Website)

Social Media Growth – How to Grow Social Media, How to Grow your (Social Media Website)

Engaging Narratives – How to write content, How to write good content

Visual Storytelling – How to make good videos, How to edit videos

Web Development – Why is website necessary, How to make website

All of these are pretty generic and for them, you can never see yourself on SERP alongside big players. They can be seed from which you can grow your list and then act upon them to push out content. Let’s take an example of any of them and then expand upon it.

Give your keyword to SEMrush Keyword Overview tool and enter in your Keyword to figure some basic stats like Volume, Intent, Keyword Difficulty and most importantly related keywords and questions around that Keyword. I’ll do it for the Social Media growth page first and show the process. Let’s start with “How To Grow Instagram” which is pretty simple and straight forward Keyword.

Volume of 1K isn’t great but it give us something to play around with so let’s scroll a little further down to get Keyword Variations and the Questions

And after this, you can select View All Keywords to get all the variations of the keyword out of which some can be your future blog title If they satisfy other factors like enough volume, KD ,etc.

Some of these KD aren’t easy to achieve as none of them are in easy or very easy score and the max you can go for is Possible Category.

Here you can see one Keyword with max volume which is
“How to grow Instagram followers” which is far better than our original keyword in terms of every stats as you can see in the pic below

What we have now is our first seed keyword and now I’ll expand upon it through research

Expand Your Keywords

Just give your keyword to Google and allow it to help you

Google will expand your keywords and tell you what people are also asking on it to let you know what you should be making content on.

After this, repeat this same for other keywords creating more variations of your keyword and do it for all of the pages you wanna see rank on SERP. Use tools like Uber suggests and SEMRush free searches to get their volume and Keyword difficulty to select some good gems.

Create URL mapping sheet

When you are done with your research, prepare a list of Keywords and their target pages. This will help you to create a content calendar and you can divide your time properly so you don’t overspend your time on any one keyword and pages. I’ve done the same for Psyden Crafts and will follow the same for now.

The one you see above is purely fictional and I’ve only created this to show you how an actual sheet looks, you can access the complete sheet to see for yourself. Now you have with yourself a sheet to follow, your content calendar and the keywords which you know will help rank your website in SERP. In the next blog, we’ll move into a bit of social media and will follow case studies.
